First Impressions

PureSpa Natural aromatherapy oil diffuser is available in three colors – black, white and natural (wood texture). I bought the wooden texture version of this diffuser. The diffuser is has the same size as that of PureSpa Deluxe Diffuser. The diffuser looks brilliant. Although, the wooden texture is faux, the color scheme blends naturally with my furniture. What more, the device looks sturdy. Anyways, lets see if the diffuser continues to impress us or not.

Build

PureSpa Natural Aromatherapy Diffuser - Maximum Water Level Mark

As I mentioned earlier, the device definitely looks sturdy. The has an all plastic construction. Like other PureSpa diffusers, this unit has two sections. The base unit houses entire electronic circuitry and water reservoir. The top unit acts as a cover controlling the mist output. There is a provision to lock the top of the unit to the base unit. Once you remove the top to clean the unit or to refill, you might find it a bit difficult to lock the top unit. However, I must admit that the presence of such a lock is indeed useful, especially if you have cats or kids at home. When you remove the top lid, you can see the water reservoir. There is a marking inside the reservoir indicating the maximum capacity.

PureSpa natural diffuser features a single touch activated switch to control all the functions of the diffuser. This being a basic diffuser, doesn’t have too many things to control as well. When you press the switch for the first time after filling the water, the diffuser powers up. The diffuser cycles through seven different colors. The LEDs don’t illuminate the top lid of the diffuser. There is a LED strip on the bottom just above the button, as you can see on the image on the left. Whenever the LED turns on, it is this strip that illuminates. The power connector is at the back of the essential oil diffuser, making it easy to connect and disconnect. This The diffuser works with 110 – 240 V / 50 or 60 Hz.

Technology

PureSpa Natural Diffuser, like most other brands popular today, uses ultrasonic diffusion to generate mist. Beneath the water reservoir, there is a  piezoelectric membrane.  When electricity passes through it, the membrane vibrates at very high frequency. The vibrations cause the fluid mixture inside the reservoir to separate, producing mist. This has an advantage of not needing to heat the fluid. The essential oils may break up their organic structure when heated, losing their medicinal property. Hence, adoption of the ultrasonic diffusion technology is predominant in newer diffusers.

On the other hand, the choice to include only a LED strip instead of a fully featured LED light may not please some people. I believe that the company has made a design choice here. PureSpa Deluxe diffuser produces more light with less reservoir capacity, while this diffuser has more reservoir capacity and produces less light. This diffuser is suited for insomniac people and kids.

The manufacturer has decided not to include many features offered by competing products. Notably, this unit misses out a predefined timers, intermittent mode of operation, etc.

Operation

Like any other PureSpa product, this diffuser is also easy to operate. Just fill the water, add essential oils according to your requirement, and power on the device. This three step process is followed across all their aromatherapy diffuser product line. Adding essential oil is not mandatory. In case you don’t add essential oil, the diffuser operates as if it were a humidifier.

When the device powers up, it starts emitting mist and starts changing colors of the band. On the second press, the lights turn off but the mist still works. If you press the button once more, the aromatherapy diffuser powers down. Furthermore, the diffuser makes a beep sound every time you press the button. This may not please some people. The bad news is that there is no way to turn this feature off. However, this diffuser doesn’t make beep sound when the diffuser turns off.

While filling the water inside the diffuser, you must ensure that the water is clean. Use of hard water may cause sediments to build up inside the unit. Although, the diffuser has a plastic construction, the chances of sediment or dirt build up is much higher if you don’t use clean water.

While using the unit over a period of two months, I got more than 9 hours on average. On all occasions, I used Majestic Pure Lavender Essential Oil, which is one of my favourite essential oils out there.

Cleaning

Regular cleaning keeps any essential oil diffuser in a good condition. In the case of PureSpa Natural diffuser, the accompanying user manual is your best friend. It contains the cleaning instructions in a detailed manner. You just need to follow those instructions. I clean all my diffusers immediately after each use. Once in a while, I use vinegar to clean the diffuser thoroughly. After completing the cleaning, you may wipe the diffuser using a paper towel.

You should pay close attention while cleaning the diffuser. Most aromatherapy diffusers, including this one, fails to mark the water draining side on the reservoir. The reservoir tank has a vent for air intake. You should always avoid the vent while draining the water. If there is water build up in the vent, then it may cause the diffuser to malfunction. Often, the problems encountered by essential oil diffuser owners could be traced back to improper handling, which damages the diffuser.

Customer Service

Sometimes, the devices which we use don’t work as expected. It happened with my PureSpa Natural Diffuser, as well. It was making a humming sound, while operating under normal conditions. I thought that this could be due to my handling. So I reread the instructions again to ensure that I was not at fault. Then I contacted the company. Although they say that they would get back in two days, I got response in four days. I spoke to their executive and they sent me a new unit. The company said that I might have received a faulty unit. Later, when I checked Amazon reviews, I could see that this is a common problem with this product line. It is quite possible that an entire batch may be faulty, due to some component quality issues. Either way, my problem was solved and the issue did not pop up later. I am pleased with the way they handled the issue.

Where it scores

  • Up to 10 hours of running time
  • Water reservoir capacity of 200 ml
  • No beep sound during auto shutoff
  • The lighting produced by the diffuser is not disturbing
  • Good coverage of aroma

Where it falls short

  • The diffuser is not quiet compared to other PureSpa models. It makes a constant humming noise (Solved after replacement, but a common problem)
  • There is no option to turn off the beep sound when you press the button
  • There is no intermittent mode or timer option

Final Words

PureSpa Natural Aromatherapy Oil Diffuser is a strong contender in the price segment it competes. Coupled with lovely design and stable and continuous mist output, the unit performed well in my daily use. The diffuser is easy to clean and maintain. Pure Enrichment, the manufacturer, has opted for a classic design with strong mist output, rather than filling the unit with so many features. Hence, if you are looking for a feature packed ultrasonic essential oil diffuser, this unit will disappoint you. On the contrary, if you need a unit which performs reasonably well with great style and stable mist output, PureSpa Natural diffuser will bring smiles on your face, everyday.
